Process Engineering – Evolution and Innovations
Process engineering has continued to evolve, as demanded by the challenges of modern industrialization and the recent notion of sustainable developments. Starting from Newtonian theories of mechanics, engineering has become a 'body' that has strong mathematical theories, modeling approaches, ever improving predictability and design capacity. This has been seen to emerge, gracefully, from the trial and error approaches to developing new technologies. Modern process engineering development is a multidisciplinary development. In this talk, such a development nature (a tree branching system) is highlighted. Food and Bioprocess engineering is singled out as the theme of the talk. In particular, selected sources of innovative ideas are presented with the intention to trigger more thoughts among the participants of the meeting and more collaboration between researchers, and between researchers and industries. The impact of material science is highlighted. The systematic and predictive innovation is discussed and more intuitive innovations are illustrated.
